History

With a combined experience of 47 years in the meat trade, Howard and Alan are proud to have re-opened the old Percy Watts butcher's shop on Portland Street as 'The Gower Butcher'.

With a large selection of locally sourced meat and poultry, their aim is to provide the people of Swansea and the surrounding area with the traceability and accountability that the discerning shopper now demands and that only a traditional butchers shop such as The Gower Butcher can supply.

Together with locally sourced Welsh Black beef, salt marsh lamb (when in season) and a selection of free range meat, game and poultry, Howard and Alan also make a large selection of handmade sausage, including their signature variety 'The Pride of Wales Sausage', containing Welsh lamb, leeks and a hint of the fiery red dragon of Wales.

 

Did you know?

At the Gower Butcher we stock the finest in-season Salt Marsh Lamb. The lambs graze on the salt marsh pastures of North Gower where they feed on a wide diversity of salt tolerant plants such as sorrel, sea lavender, samphire, Sparta grass and thrift, which gives the lamb its distinctive delicate flavour,favoured by T.v. chefs such as Rick Stein, Gary Rhodes and Gordon Ramsey.

 

Products & Cuts

Leg of lamb whole or half - the traditional sunday roast, gives an excellent
flavour and is very lean and tender.

Shoulder whole or half - a very versatile cut, has a wonderful depth of flavour, a surperb roasting joint on the bone or boned and rolled (please ask) - also very good for casseroles or stews.
Boneless Neck of lamb fillets - ideal for casseroles,stews,pies,and curries.
Breast of lamb - stuffed and pot roasted slowly or cut into riblets and roasted - an economical and very tasty meal.

Lamb Chops - perfect for the midweek meal. Fried, grilled or roasted they have an excellent flavour and are perfectly tender.

Lamb Leg Steaks - fried or grilled this is the perfect cut for a special meal or
midweek treat. They have an outstanding flavour and are perfectly tender.

Rack of lamb - perfect for that special meal, dinner party or romantic night in, pan-fried and finished in a hot oven, perfect !

Award winning hand made sausages -

Traditional pork, thick or thin - an old fashioned style sausage made to a Traditional butchers recipe, winning a gold Award in 2007 at the Welsh Innovations in Food competiton, its a good all round sausage.
Pork and apple - pork sausage with a hint sweet apple, a favourite with the kids.

Pork and Chive - a good all round sausage,favoured by our restaurant customers.

Cumberland - a tasty pork and sage sausage especially good for Toad in the Hole

Pork, Leek and Chilli - a big tasting sausage with a healthy kick Of chilli as a surprise after taste.

Pork, Leek and Laverbread - a special sausage made by us to celebrate St. David's day and our first anniversary in the shop and has fast become one of our best selling sausages, having won a silver Award in 2007 at the Welsh Innovations in food competition.

Chorizo - A pork sausage, seasoned with paprika,red and green peppers and garlic, to make a medium spiced sausage.

Pork and Garlic - Pork with a garlic kick

Chicken, Ginger and Spring Onion - a low fat sausage specially designed for its subtle taste and light texture.

Classic Beef - a traditional sausage with a mildly seasoned beefy taste.

Beef and Cracked Black Pepper - an all beef sausage with all the heat of spicey Black Pepper, it has won a silver award in 2007 at the Welsh Innovations in food competition.

Tandoori Lamb - a specially designed sausage that won Gold at the 2007 Welsh Innovations in Food competition. A highly spiced sausage made with a mixture of Indian spices and the best local lamb.

Minted lamb - a mixture of sweet mint and lamb make these a firm favourite with adults and children.

Toulouse - This is a continental style all meat sausage,containing lean pork,black
pepper and a healthy amount of fresh garlic - a sausage for the garlic lovers.

Boerwers (vors) - a speciality all meat sausage from a South African recipe containing lean beef, Pork,spices and coriander seed - the perfect barbecue sausage.

Merguez - a highly spiced all meat lamb sausage made to traditional North African
recipe.

There are new flavours being added to our sausage menu constantly please check the shop for further details. We also stock gluten free sausage.

Finest dry-cured Welsh Bacon

We use our own recipe bacon cure to make bacon the way it should be -made with no injected water or additives. Choose from plain short back, smoked sweetcure shortback,
plain streaky or smoked streaky.
