Sketty Local Produce Market

History: Sketty Local Produce market is growing as fast as the produce it sells. Now held at St Paul’s Parish Hall with it’s decent sized car park, there are around a dozen stalls selling locally produced salt marsh lamb, goat meat, dry cured bacon and fresh pork, fish, seasonal fresh vegetables and Welsh produce, bread so fresh it’s still hot, jams, olives, fresh free-range eggs, luxury handmade chocolate and cakes. There are craft items including paintings, jewellery, aromatherapy products, plants and more! Organisers believe the success of the market is down to the  “movement” of people away from large busy supermarkets to high-quality locally produced food and goods where they know where their products are coming from, and so reducing food miles, packaging and helping the environment.

The market also has a locally run café, which provides a great social aspect of the market. People meet friends and neighbours and stop for a cup of tea and a chat.   This market is unique in South Wales as it has the distinction of being the only one that is privately funded and run by the stallholders themselves.
