The Britannia Inn

You get the feeling that anywhere beyond Penclawdd is only good for beaches, but this family run restaurant and pub takes you by surprise. Llanmadoc's historic landmark is hard to miss whichever way you come into the village. Its claim as 'Gower's best kept secret' isn't far from the truth - it could also probably lay claim to being the only real 'Gastropub' in Swansea Bay, Mumbles and Gower. It really adds to the choice of venues of North Gower, and provides a good balance to the plethora of restaurants that occupy Mumbles and South Gower.

Don't be deceived into thinking things have gone all trendy though. Somehow The Britannia Inn has managed to pleasantly defy expectations - for it still feels inherently like the centre of the community and a great place to relax just for a drink, and enjoy the truly stunning views over the mouth of the Loughor estuary. The building itself is full of unadulterated history and charm - they say that the beams of the restaurant were salvaged from the wrecks of 'lantern ships', lured ashore in the dark.

The Britannia Inn pork belly starter

The Britannia Inn was taken over in September 2006 by Martin and Lindsey and Joyce and Viv, who together with the team ensure a genuinely warm welcome to all their customers. Martin and Lindsey are both trained chefs who have worked all over the world and their commitment to superb food is self evident. Every care is taken in the kitchen to make sure that only the best meal arrives at your table. Now settled back in their native Gower, the knowledge gained from their experiences, and their passion and drive to create fine food influence their cuisine. Offering a mix of traditional dishes allied with more exotic fare, they are striving to create a little corner of culinary distinction and service par excellence in this beautiful part of the Gower.

The Britannia Inn Chocolate Assiette

Choose from Fresh Pea & Parmesan Risotto, or Fresh Local Pan Fried Grey Mullet amongst the mouthwatering menu. If you are a chocolate lover then you will definitely not want to miss out on desserts here - Chocolate Assiette could convert the most stubborn chocolate-hater!
