Castellamare

Swansea Bay has been likened to the Bay of Naples in the past, with a beautiful expanse of curving coastline, with its mountains spilling into the ocean.

Castellamare has certainly taken advantage of this asset. Clinging to the rocky face of the furthest point of Mumbles, the views from the restaurant and alfresco tables are arguably among the best that you will enjoy anywhere in the area. While dining on spaghetti marinara and a fine glass of Italian wine chosen from the extensive wine cellar, you can watch wintry waves crash, or slip into a dreamy paradise on a hot summer’s evening as the sunset twinkles around Gower’s waters.

As you would expect from an Italian family-run restaurant, children are welcome at any time, and the Di Iulio brothers cater for them with a children’s menu. Not surprisingly given its proximity to the sea, you’ll also find that fish is a speciality, with fresh cod, seabass, salmon, king prawns and seafood risotto, to name a few.

For the vegetarians, gnocchi are served ‘rustica’ – with fresh Mediterannean vegetables in a delicious tomato sauce and finished with melted mozzarella. Those hungry for some Italian meat dishes will be glad to know that the beef used is in fact Welsh Black, and can be had on its own or with an Italian slant.
